The star Betelgeuse is a very different kind of bright stars of Orion Star bluish-white or white. It 'a reddish color and brightness varies irregularly. Its distance from Earth is only about 160 light years from a distance of about 600 light-years, compared to Rigel, the three belt stars, the stars of Orion Sword of Orion and other stars. Betelgeuse is a red giant star and has a diameter of about 200 million miles. If setthe center of our solar system rather than our sun, would almost fill the entire space within the orbit of Mars, and our own Earth, are below the surface.

But now there are well-known giant stars that are too bulky to Betelgeuse. Antares, in Scorpius, with a diameter of 400 million miles, and Mira, or Omicron Ceti, with a diameter of about 250 million miles, is more than the size of Betelgeuse. The star of Orion's belt, which lies furtherTo the west lies almost directly on the equator, so that it passes through the zenith to the equator, and the constellation is equally conspicuous in the northern hemisphere and south. To the south of the equator, but the warrior seems to be directed in a reversed position with the feet at the peak of his head and skyline.

Orion will be visible throughout the winter and spring, disappearing in the west just after sunset in early May, as the Scorpionlies in the south-east. Perhaps for this reason, the story among the ancients, the Warrior of Heaven was caused by the escape Scorpion. Apollo is said, once sent to sting Orion Scorpio as punishment for falling in love with the goddess Diana. Through her intercession, who was in the sky of The Scorpion arranged so that when he came west looking east Scorpio could escape.

Orion is like a threatening attitude towards his two dogs, bull, dogMajor and Canis Minor, are hot on their heels. If the line of stars that form Orion's belt to the south-east, not far from Sirius, the Dog Star, brightest star of all to happen. The Little Dog Star, is located in the north-east of Sirius, though less brilliant than Sirius by far one of the twenty brightest stars in the sky. With Sirius and Betelgeuse, forms a large triangle with the sides nearly equal in length.
